This afternoon, Mayor Bowser declared a health systems emergency based on the current status of the District’s Medicaid managed care program. The order gives “DC Health Care Finance and other leadership broad authority to implement measures that are necessary to ensure the health and safety of District residents.” Read the full Mayor's Order.
DCHA, its members and other health associations in the District, are deeply concerned about the impact the current crisis will have on access to care for hundreds of thousands of Medicaid beneficiaries. In that light, DCHA has developed a joint statement, co-signed by the other major health associations, expressing our support for Mayor Bowser’s emergency declaration. The statement also encourages “the Bowser Administration and DC City Council to work together to ensure a smooth and timely solution that provides predictability, sustainability, and most importantly, protects access to care for our most vulnerable citizens.”
As noted, the emergency gives DHCF broad powers to develop plans to protect against disruptions in access to care for Medicaid beneficiaries. DCHA will be closely monitoring this process and will keep you informed of any future developments.
