Medical Director
Hospitals Bioterrorism Preparedness Planning Process for the District of Columbia
through the
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services funding to the District of Columbia
The District of Columbia Hospital Association (DCHA), under contract to the D.C. Department of Health (DOH), is seeking a half-time medical director for the hospitals bioterrorism preparedness planning process. This position will be funded through the federal funds received, in part, from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for hospitals bioterrorism preparedness planning. The tenure of appointment is for an indeterminate period, but of at least six months duration.
The medical director will be a physician, licensed to practice in the District of Columbia, with board certification in an appropriate specialty. The medical director will have education and experience in systems design and project administration. The medical director must have demonstrated leadership ability.
The duties of the half-time medical director will be:
1. To facilitate the hospitals bioterrorism preparedness planning process so that gaps are identified and needs are assessed and prioritized;
2. To coordinate the efforts of all of the various bioterrorism committees and task forces for both the District and the region, to ensure that plans and protocols work together and without conflict;
3. To serve as the hospitals bioterrorism preparedness planning chief medical officer, identifying and researching clinical needs so that the plans can be implemented; and
4. To serve as a liaison among regional hospitals, DOH, COG, Medical Society of the District of Columbia (MSDC), Medico-Chirurgical Society of the District of Columbia (MCSDC), and various federal agencies, as required.
Among the broad areas of responsibilities will be: communication, education and training, service delivery, distribution of supplies and services, and research.
A committee comprised of representatives from DCHA, DOH, MSDC, and MCSDC will select this half-time medical director. The medical director will report to the DCHA President.
